Today is my first softball game I will be attending with my mentor. Upon arriving to the field, we set up our booth located about he stands behind home plate. The scoreboard, printer, and laptop for keeping stats all needed attention. Once this was completed, we had to wait for the umpired to check all the bats to make sure they were compliant with NCAA regulations. One they were completed, I needed to run to each dugout and gather the starting lineups for both teams. These were then entered into the program that kept stats and we also tweeted this out on the softball website. This was the start of a conference doubleheader vs. St. Joe’s out of Pennsylvania. My main responsibilities were to run the scoreboard, assist in audio and to also keep the social media account updated. This was a very fun experience, especially since UD won the first game and tied on the second.
Interesting tidbit took place during the second game that resulted in the tie. Before the game, managers agree upon a “Drop dead Time”. This is an agreed upon time that games must end, regardless of score, in order for the teams to get back home based upon flight times. I had no idea this was a scenario that could take place. The AD and coaches had to execute this plan, resulting in a tie.
